History of the Educational Heritage of the Sisters of Notre Dame –

Notre Dame Junior College of Education is the successor organization to the Sacred Heart Training College, Bangalore, which was established on 12th May 1904 by the Good Shepherd Sisters on Museum Road, Bangalore.

The Sacred Heart Training College closed in 1971 after serving Anglo-Indian Community from 1904. On 1 June 1972, the Apostolic Carmelite Sisters took over the Management of the College, and for the next two years the college functioned at Jayanagar.

Mr. A.E.T. Barrow, the then Honorary Secretary for Inter-State Board for Anglo-Indian Education requested Sr. Mary Vaune S.N.D, The principal of Sophia High School to take up the college on the grounds of Sophia. Sr. Mary Vaune wasted no time. The college was set up on the 23rd January, 1974, with Sister Mary Jesslin as the first Principal. With this dawned Notre Dame Junior College of Education, Bangalore.

Milestones

From 1974 to 2012, Notre Dame Junior College of Education has expanded and witnessed a growth of excellence in every area of the Teacher Training College. These 38 years have witnessed the spirit and charism of five outstanding and dedicated daughters of St. Julie Billiart.

SISTER MARY JESSLIN S N D [1974 – 1978] Sr. Jesslin, the first Principal of Notre Dame Junior College of Education laid a foundation so strong that no adversity was able to shake it to this day.

SISTER MARY JYOTI S N D [ 1978 – 1986] Sr. Jyoti was one with a magnetic personality. With her enthusiasm and love for the trainees, sister became the heart throb of Notre Dame Junior College of Education.

SISTER MARY ARUNA S N D[1986 – 1992] A cool level headed and quite worker, Sr. Aruna helped to further the growth of Notre Dame Junior College of Education.

SISTER MARY VISHALA S N D [1992 – 2004] Rooted strongly in the Notre Dame Heritage of Education, a young and energetic Sr. Vishala took over the reins of the Teacher Training College and took it to great heights.

SISTER MARY SHANTI S N D From 2004 till date. A person with great faith in the value of integrity is Sr. Mary Shanti. She is a principled Principal. All impossible becomes possible with her determination to achieve, even by being kind, calm and pensive.

Aims and Objectives

The college aims to train, for the teaching profession, young women who are endowed with a sense of dedication. To this end the college endeavours to develop the whole person and to perfect the human personality, which includes Intellectual, Psychological, Moral, Spiritual, Cultural, Social, Physical and Professional formation of the students.

Foreseeing the future of the college, we secured the Government order from Karnataka State Government to run the college under the Karnataka D.Ed. program in 2013.

The motto of our college is – “Love is Service”. Love can be shown only in action, in service to others. What better way is there than to dedicate one’s life and love in the service of God’s own children.

We invite the young women who have secured 50% in +2/II P.U.C. to touch the hearts and lives of young children to build a better nation/world by being teachers.
